Did You See What Didn’t Just Happen?

As Angie approached the red light she was busy talking to her young son Nick, about his baseball game the night before. She wasn’t paying attention to her driving or the intersection coming up quckly in front of her. Nick was busy with his brand new baseball glove, tossing it into the air and catching it over and over in the front seat.

She had ask him several times to stop but Nick, being a little boy, just continued to toss it and bounce it off of the ceiling of the car. “Please stop tossing the glove Nick”, Angie said stearnly. I’m not going to tell you again.

Suddenly the glove glanced off of the rear view mirror and smacked Angie against the side of her face, temporarily blinding her from the road ahead. Agitated, she grabbed the glove and threw it into the back seat and looked up just in time to hear a loud horn blasting in her ear.

Startled by the car horn, Angie slammed on the brakes bringing her car to a screaming halt. She looked left and then right...nothing. As she looked over her shoulder, she saw for the first time, a flashing red light. She’d never noticed rolling through the intersection at all. Most of all, She had never even seen the semi truck that missed her by inches.

She and Nick could have easily been killed in those moments before but by the Grace of God she and Nick had been spared. If not for the sound of the horn, neither one of them would have ever even known that they had just run through the intersection at over 60 MPH, escaping tragedy by a thread.

Did you see what did’nt just happen? Had Angie and Nick been killed, there would have been broken hearts, broken lives and oh so many ...”why God why’s”. We would have heard, “Why did God let this happen” from distraught loved ones and “Why didn’t He save them” over and again from church members where they went to church each Sunday?

The fact of the matter is that God did save them. On top of that, it never occurred to then m at all that the timing of those two vehicles not coming together at that red light was God saving their lives. How many times a day are we saved from death or injury and never have a clue what God is doing for us?

How many cancer test are reversed before the first x-ray is taken? How many airplane engines don’t fail that should have failed. How many times should our car have run out of gas on a dark and deserted road in the middle of the night but mysteriously just kept on running. It happens all the time and we never ever give thanx.

In every one of those instances,if God had not saved the day then we would have experienced tragedy and ended up blaming him for not saving us. We are a sad bunch sometimes aren’t we?
